Description
Distilled in 1999 at Appleton Estate in Jamaica’s Nassau Valley and matured for 21 years under tropical conditions before bottling in 2020, the Hearts Collection 1999 showcases the expressive potential of long aged Jamaican pot still rum. This 100 percent pot still rum was selected from casks #407819 through #407830 and released in limited quantity, with approximately 3,000 bottles worldwide.
Part of the Hearts Collection, this release captures a specific vintage with no secondary maturation or finishing outside Jamaica. The series is a collaboration between Appleton Estate Master Blender Joy Spence and Luca Gargano of Velier, focusing on single vintage expressions that reflect the character of long tropical ageing without additives or post-distillation manipulation.
In terms of congeners, the 1999 Hearts Collection has a measured total of approximately 855 g per hL AA. That figure positions it between the lighter congeners counts typical of younger Jamaican pot still rums and the higher counts seen in older vintage expressions. The congener concentration contributes to a profile that is expressive yet relatively approachable for its category, maintaining both structure and aromatic diversity.
On the nose, this rum typically opens with woody notes, tropical fruit, orange peel, caramel and hints of herbs. The palate combines spice, herbal complexity and soft oaky tones with undertones of dark fruit, licorice and chocolate. The finish is sustained, with wood-driven depth and lingering fruit. Reviewers on RumX describe it as balanced, integrated and fruit-forward, with complexity rewarding air and a splash of water.
